The TEI Music SIG

November 11, 2019Posted by Raffaele Viglianti

The TEI Special Interest Group in Music first met in 2008 at the London TEI Members Meeting. This meeting was crucial to discuss long-term goals and to establish an agenda. It was then decided that the SIG should focus on:

  • bringing together users of the TEI interested in incorporating encoded music into their TEI documents or in encoding music-related documents;
  • providing recommendations and examples for encoding music notation within the TEI; in particular using the XML-based Music Encoding Initiative (MEI) and MusicXML formats;
  • providing recommendations on and, when possible, contributions to the development of tools for generation and rendering of encoded music;
  • defining a vocabulary of elements in TEI for encoding music-related content and terminology.

If you would like to join the discussion and work towards these goals, please join the Music SIG members mailing list, which you can join here.
